Workshop content:

Rather than focusing on fixed patterns, this workshop will encourage creative exploration of frictions. We'll discover their multifaceted applications, the underlying reasons for their use, the structures they can generate, and inspire innovative experimentation. Mastering these techniques will give you a great toolkit for improvising ties and learning new patterns.

The workshop will cover:

• Counter tension

• Takedome/Half Hitch

• Yuki knot/Half Hitch on bight

• Nodome/Munter Hitch

• Uranodome/Reverse Munter Hitch

• X-friction

We'll engage in exercises to demonstrate how you can use these common frictions in your ties in a playful and creative way.

Prior information requirements:

The rigger…

• Can tie holding single and double column tie

• Knows how to continue rope

• Has some experience in tying on the floor

• Manages basic rope handling

The bottom…

• You've been in ropes before

• You have information about risks in tying, specially nerve issues

Needed for this workshop:

• Water bottle, snacks/lunch

• Clothes that are comfortable to wear and move in

• A notebook or paper and pen

• Ropes, safety scissors (always ok to borrow from Helsinki Shibari as well)
